ขอบคุณมากครับ สำหรับโคลง 'หิ่งห้อย...' ของท่านอาจารย์ ม.ร.ว. เสนีย์ ปราโมช

ขอเพิ่มประวัติไว้เล็กน้อยว่า โคลงนี้เกิดจากการที่ United Poets Laureate International ได้เชิญอาจารย์ ม.ร.ว. เสนีย์ เป็นสมาชิก โดยแต่งเป็นโคลงภาษาอังกฤษ มีความยาว 7 บท (ผมจะหาโอกาสนำมาบันทึกไว้ หากมีผู้สนใจ)

ทั้งนี้ อาจารย์ ม.ร.ว. เสนีย์ ปราโมช ได้ตอบเป็นจดหมายไว้ดังนี้

Mr. President,

I am touched and charmed by the manner in which you have caught on to the beauty of the Klong. The result by one who is unaccustomed is truly remarkable, obliging me, as you see, to reply in prosaic prose.

It is indeed an honour to me and most kind of you to invite me to join the Society of Poets Laureate. However, as I understand that honour to be one of public acclaim and national appointment, I must decline for the following reason.

หิงห้อยฤาจักสู้ ราศี

บังบดอุทัยกวี เจิดจ้า

ใต้ฟ้าร่มบารมี เป็นสุข

หากอาจเอื้อมถึงฟ้า มอดม้วยอาสัญ

HING+ HOI' RU JAG. SU' RA SE+

To Firefly, its own little light .

To the Sun, its might and glory.

Mundane, do I sight heavenly poete,

Only to dim my dignity in a flight forlorn ?
