Reading this post reminds me of the hidden "tones" used in English. Yes! English is tonal (like Thai). Though English does not have 'tone marks' (like -่ -้ -๊ -๋ in Thai; but again Thai tonal system is much more complex than just 'tone marks'). The pronunciation as shown above does not say what 'tones' to use to say the words correctly.
The tones in English come implicitly and mainly from 'tail consonants' (ตัวสะกด). For examples words like 'and' (แอนดึ) vs 'ant' (แอ๊นทึ); add vs act; bad vs bat; man vs mass; stand vs stance; comprehend vs comprehension;...
