เมื่อ เปรียบเทียบ สองสิ่ง เช่น
‘John is TALLER than Tom.’
‘John works MORE ENERGETICALLY than Tom.’
โดยใช้ รูป ‘superlative’ เมื่อเปรียบเทียบ สามสิ่งหรือมากกว่า เช่น
‘John is the TALLEST of all the engineers.
‘John works THE MOST ENERGETICALLY of all the engineers.’
2 สามารถจัดรูป ‘comparative’ และ ‘superlative’ ของ คุณศัพท์ ได้สองวิธี คือ
ก. เติมท้ายด้วย ‘-er’ และ ‘-est’ กับคุณศัพท์ สั้นๆ เช่น
Tall taller tallest
Happy happier happiest
ข. สำหรับ คุณศัพท์ ที่ยาว ให้ใช้ ‘more’ และ‘most’ เช่น
Dangerous / more dangerous / most dangerous
Successful / more successful / most successful
สามารถ ทำแบบเดียวกัน ได้ กับ กริยาวิเศษณ์ ด้วย เช่น
ค. กริยาวิเศษณ์ สั้น เติมท้ายด้วย ‘-er’ และ ‘-est’ เช่น
‘You run FASTER than I do.’
‘He runs the FASTEST of us all.’
ง. กับ กริยาวิเศษณ์ ที่ยาว ใช้ ‘more’ และ‘most’ เช่น
‘Nikki works MORE ‘CONSCIENTIOUSLY than Sarah.’
‘Niamh works THE MOST CONSCIENTIOUSLY of them all.’
3. มี คุณศัพท์ ที่เป็น "irregular" สาม คำคือ
