“astound” เป็นต้นเหตุให้เกิด = “astonishment”

เราจะ “surprise” กับ สิ่งที่ดูเหมือน “เป็น แค่ว่า ไม่คาดคิด” หรือ “ไม่นึกว่าจะเกิด”

เราจะ “astonished” เมื่อความ “surprise” ของเรานั้นมากยิ่ง

จนกระทั่ง “พูดไม่ออก งงงัน” จากอาการ ช็อก (shock) จนตัวชา นิ่งเฉย

แสดงนัยถึง “astound” (to fill with wonder)
