Inauguration of International Tipiṭaka Hall 2000

This may be the first important move of the World Tipiṭaka Project in 2000 to assemble all the Pāḷi Tipiṭaka in various national scripts of the world in one good repository.

This documentary archive recorded the inauguration of the International Tipiṭaka Hall in Bangkok at Thailand's oldest university. The occasion also celebrated the world's largest collection of the Buddha's words which was presided over by His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, also Patron of the World Tipiṭaka Project.

"The International Tipiṭaka Collection" was presented as a donation by Dhamma Society Fund to the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University; the University subsequently established "The International Tipiṭaka Hall" to house this collection in the University's oldest building on campus which founded by King Chulalongkorn Chulachomklao's noble son, King Vajiravudh of Siam.

Using these international editions, including a most important manuscript --the B.E. 2500 (1957) Great International Tipiṭaka Edition in Burmese script-- as reference for the entire process of prove-reading, the Dhamma Society, in 2005, finally published for the first time the 40-volume Pāḷi Tipiṭaka in Roman Script -- the World Edition.

In 2010, the Word Tipiṭaka Edition in Roman Script has been presented as a royal gift of Wisdom & Peace from Thailand to to no less than 40 leading international institutions of the World in 20 countries.

In continuously studying and reciting the Pāḷi -- the sacred language of Dhamma-- the Wisdom Heritage of Humanity will be safely preserved for the world's future generation.
