- I have been to retreat once for Engineering and Human Capital Development
- Dean Weerakorn Ongsakul with me last time and Vice President and Dean of Engineering.
- I spoke for 45 minutes and we have workshop – similar to today .
- The purpose is to share ideas about global universities ranking – applied to AIT and what are the methodology – Can AIT implement and join the world ranking system effectively – How to do it?
Why ranking?
1) To create brand for the university.
2) To attract good faculties, good students and research.
3) To be recognized by the world of AIT great achievement.
4) To look for the future of AIT, among competiting global university.
5) To create pride and happiness among AIT Community.
6. Which ranking?

- National Ranking
- World University Ranking
- Specific Academic Programs such as engineering or science
- Graduate School Ranking
7. In my opinion, AIT should be applied to World University Ranking and Specific Academic Programs too –But today we explore World University Ranking .
8. For World University Ranking – there are three system of rankings all three have been refered to by various sources ;
8.1) The Shanghai Jiao Tong University World Ranking in Shanghai China – Started in 2003 probably the most important one for AIT in term of pre-stage. Because it deals with top research university in the world.
It started with ideas to see the gap between Chinese University and the rest of the world.
Their Methodology is..
- 40% Quality of Faculty
- 40% Quality of Research
- 10% Quality of Education
- 10% Performance vs. Size

20 The University of Tokyo ,Japan
24 Kyoto University ,Japan
62 University of Melbourne, Australia
72 The Hebrew University of Jerusalem,Israel
75 Osaka University, Japan

8.2) QS World University Ranking System also important – their methodology is ..
- Academic Peer Review 40%
- Recruiter Review 10%
- Faculty – Student Ratio 20%
- Citations per Faculty 20%
- International Orientation –International Student 5%
- International Staff 5%
AIT must apply to QS system also because it reflects the strength of AIT

8.3) The Time/Higher Education World University Ranking System– their methodology is ..
- Teaching — the learning environment (30%)
- Research — volume, income and reputation (30 %)
- Citations — research influence (32.5%)
