 วันนี้ตอนเช้า ข่าวภาคเช้าออกว่าคืนนี้จะมีพายุฝน ให้ระมัดระวังตัวด้วย

เปิด e-mail ของมหาวิทยาลัย มี staff จากหอพักส่งมาบอกว่า จะมีพายุฝน ให้ดูแลข้าวของใช้ อย่าเสียบไฟที่ไม่ได้ใช้ อยู่ห่างๆ กระจก บางทีอาจจะมีหลังคาหลุดปลิวมาได้

คุยกับเพื่อนที่อยู่มาหลายปี บอกว่าภูเขาหลังโรงเรียน 8 ปีก่อน เคยมีน้ำป่าไหลลงมาท่วมมหาวิทยาลัยด้วย เพราะฝนตกหนัก น้ำระบายไม่ทัน เพื่อนที่ทำงานให้ห้องแลปกลางคืน ต้องวิ่งหนีน้ำขึ้นไปชั้นบน เพราะน้ำมาเร็วมาก ชั่วโมงเดียวสูงหนึ่งเมตร

"The Bureau of Meteorology in conjunction with SES have issued a Severe NSW Weather Warning for widespread damaging and locally destructive winds, flash flooding from mid north coast to south coast, which encompasses the Illawarra (includes Southern Highlands).  With rain and wind gusts forecast along the coast, winds could average in excess of 90km/h up to 125km/h.

This weather warning is being broadcast through media and local broadcasting radio stations today.  For weather updates you can listen to your local radio station.

The worst of these conditions are expected later tonight (Tuesday evening) and before sunrise Wednesday morning."

At the end of the working day today, Staff are reminded and should ensure the following:

  • Secure all windows & external doors on balconies 
  • in any prone areas where you may have previously experienced water leaks take preparatory action to move any vulnerable equipment
  • turn off power to any equipment not required/necessary to be turned on overnight
  • in any low susceptible areas ensure equipment or other materials are raised off the floor or moved 

For general information and at home this evening the SES advises people to prepare before the storm by:

  • Securing and putting away any loose items from around the house yard and/or
  • balcony
  • Moving vehicles under secure cover and away from trees
  • Keeping an eye on their local weather conditions
  • Listening to their local radio stations for updates and advice
  • Boat owners ensuring their vessels are appropriately secured

During the storm, the SES advises people to:

  • Stay inside and away from windows
  • Keep clear of fallen trees and power lines
  • Never drive, ride or walk through floodwater, including flash floodwater and stay well clear of creeks, storm   drains, culverts and causeways
  • Stay out of the water and areas exposed to surf
  • Owners of coastal properties should keep a careful watch on any coastal erosion and be prepared to act on advice from authorities if necessary
