Dear Prof.Dr. Chira,
First of all, we highly appreciate on your great contribution to the nation, toward people development and the society, and generously extended to us, your new students.
From now on, I may be able to state my point of view as I am not an expert in this field which is new for me. Therefore, I can not say that I am able to critic or analyze the content of the text book. Just to share my opinion.
Learning from the “Total Quality of Human Resources (8 H’s vs 8 K’s)” & “HR.Champion”
Some points of view to the books, both express in the narrative method by referring the authors’ experiences which are very impressive and valuable to the readers. The stories were told and interviewed by the author himself and the persons surrounding by means of coming to point of each case, the hidden reasons and results.
After reading, I found that the investment in people is absolutely essential to the growth in the modern world and indeed an essential ingredient to progress.
For example, we may need good machines, equipment, plants and so on. But we need the good workers and good managers, and innovator entrepreneurs along with the right and sound structure to utilize these machines effectively. In fact, we really need and rely on good persons in a sound environment. We have to rely on our people and basically to invest in people is put people at the centre of structure, and that is where they should be. The structure I mean may be family unit, workplace, social unit, a part of economy system, a part of the nation and everywhere. Just keep in mind that people is the centre and the whole of the structure. What the results we need show responsively and conformably to the way we treat them.
Family plays a big role in forming and contributing to the training of the people and to the attitudes and preferences of the people as they grow up. Family shapes what are people’s attitudes towards honesty, responsibility, hard work, harmony, interrelation with others, self reliance, self respecting and so on. It might say that growing up in a sound and supporting family, which is the smallest social unit can generate marvelously toward Human Capital, Ethical Capital, Happiness Capital, Intellectual Capital and Talent Capital (or similarly, toward Home, Hand, Health, Heart, Head, and Happiness)
Formal schooling and on-the-job training from workplace are the source that people can acquire knowledge, skill and learn to know social life and its networks, all which assist to create the Social Capital, Talent Capital and Intellectual Capital.
Interaction between the investment in people and giving them the opportunities in a good learning environment is essential so that they can utilize the talents in a productive way (see Cement Thai’s HR management and practices in a good learning organization; and also consider A.Chira’s 4L’s theory – a sound learning environment).
To this point, I may give the example of good learning environment. Please consider the Chinese in Main China and Taiwan. They are Chinese, the same origin but Taiwanese has the right environment and proves more productivity and economic progress. Different environments have made an enormous difference. Also, Taiwanese know themselves in this modern life and learn how to compete in the world of globalization. This may be something related to Culture Capital, Heritage.
Apart from that, to the point of HR. practices in Cement Thai, there are :
1. Achieving recruiting and merit excellence; require both capability and acceptability person.
2. Creating a total reward and accountability orientation
3. Establishing a collegial, flexible workplace, opportunities in appropriate environment and sense of team work.
4. Opening up communication between management and employees. No walls between each linkage. Making certain the right attitude both top-down and bottom-up.
5. Implementing focused HR technology and development through training, job satisfaction, job challenges. People is the highest value to create productivity (as said “Make people before making the product”) In fact, people is the one who can create all the Intellectual Capital. We have to learn how to promote the use of those talents in a productive way rather in a counterproductive way (8 H’s -- Harmony).
In this last sentence, it may be said that nowadays a primary determinant of a country’s standard of living (macro) and of an organization (micro) is how well it succeeds in utilizing its people which is related to skills, knowledge, attitude, talent, intellectual, social network, ethical, harmony, team work, family background, the culture and the health of its people.
Thanks for all readers in paying some attention to this article and welcome for all suggestions.

Chadarat Hengsadeekul
