หลังจากทำการบ้านเพิ่มเติมโดยไปค้นความหมายของศัพท์ต่างๆจาก Black's Law Dictionary  (เป็นดิกชันนารีที่มีเฉพาะศัพท์กฎหมาย จัดทำขึ้นโดยนักกฎหมายในสหรัฐอเมริกา จึงไม่ต้องแปลกใจว่าโดยมากแล้ว จะนิยามศัพท์ตามความหมาย และยกตัวอย่างตามแบบ common law)พบว่า

Citizen--- “A person who, by either birth or naturalization, is a member of a political community, owing allergiance to the community and being entitled to enjoy all its civil rights and protections ; a member of the civil state, entitled all its privileges”

Natural –born citizen “A person born within the jurisdiction of a national government”

Naturalized citizen “A foreign –born person who attains citizenship by law”
