I happened to read the same Computerworld article “Making IT Work for Women” as mentioned in (บันทึก: Girl Power in Thai IT)
I’d like to generalize from the article that there are two syndromes in US based IT world;

 • "You can't have your cake, and eat it, too" You have to make a choice between a partnership in a work place or at home. Tough choice? For some women, but not all.
 • "Build it and they will come" - Field of Dreams: Women as industry leaders and role models to inspire/mentor younger female professionals.
 •

Most working women in America share problems in (1) keeping househouse and (2) raising children. They have a tougher time, compared to working women in Thailand, to have these two womenly/motherly job accomplished as (1) help is harder to find (geographically speaking), (2) help costs a bit more (economically speaking).

In sum, Thai IT girls, compared to their American counterparts, might have been given more opportunity without them knowing it. It's all up to them if they want to grab it or not.

However, this “opportunity” thing, is not a girl or a guy thing - it’s genderless. It could be a “gut” i.e. courage to do things, and a lot of things..
