I had experienced waiting at a provincial hospital in Thailand from 7:30am to 2:00pm for a medical service (for a non-life threatening symptom which was probably assessed so by a triage system). There were vendors doing their business, volunteers dressed in lively colors going around providing talks, exercises, drinks, and entertainment acts, while medical personnel were busy performing their work. I came away with pictures of much the same situation in hospitals around the country and two trains of thoughts. One was on cutting down waiting time. Another was on grandstanding the waiting time as arenas for cultural development - where in the world would offer opportunities like this with packed audience (patients), free activists (volunteers), stages (sites/venues), … No. Not for Department of Public Health, but…
