Thank you ดร. วิรัตน์ คำศรีจันทร์ for reading and adding many references for extending this simplistic blog (for Sunday reading) into a more formal academic research and/or passion (which [I think] many people can use to earn a higher degree, if they can find a supervisor at the university near where they live).
I ended my note with ‘Thai etymology is a very limited area’ from my limited resources. The field of study is vast, divert and open for explorations. The digital resources are sparse and not indexed for quick referencing. So, there are lots of opportunities and work that can add attractions.
| For tourists (should I say ‘surfers’?) following a quirky guide (like me), may I suggest installing a ‘Stardict | Goldendict’ (free and open source) dictionary app on a computer and adding some stardict formatted dictionaries to the app? Voila! You have a simple but useful database for learning interesting words and how (sometimes why) they are used. The ประมวลศัพท์พุทธศาสตร์(ป.อ. ปยุตฺโต) dictionary can be downloaded from https://cdn.gotoknow.org/assets/media/files/001/498/938/original_1717967508.zip . |
For those wishing to explore this field, please reread ดร. วิรัตน์’s comments and also check out the many useful resources he mentions in the comment and in his profile (just click on his icon or name -in blue-).
We can glance Thai culture online, but we will miss other flavors (experiences) only the real objects can provide. Knowing more about object, we can enhance our appreciation and our life within culture. We can ascend.
