I have had a thought that “science is not pure” (when I read many years ago about the discovery of helix structure of DNA and later about the hardening of rubber). Science is developing from many motivations including ‘humanistic’ ones like greed/money, vanity/fame and love/bias.

So, this is just the same as ‘society development’.
