In Aus, coloure-coded clothing for emergency personnel (on missions) had been in use for some 15 years now (with great success). The coloured cloths help identified personnel by functions/roles, serve as 'official rights to be in the area' (-- onlookers and others may hinder rescue progress), and many other uses.

Also, colour arrow-lines on hospital floors help with navigation to different sections within the hospital. (Answers to 'where is ... department/unit -- "follow the ... line" ;-)
