1) In books and novels, we may read '...(someone) rose up (to face the enemy or responsibility)' .. stnad up to enemy/oppression/responsibility is also common.

2) In supermarkets, we see 'self-raising flour' (เซ๊วผื เรซ อิ้ง ฟื-ลาว-รื) -- though 'raise' in a transitive verb, the object 'self' is turned into a qualifying 'adverb'.

Note. 2 types of flours: plain (wheat) flour = (wheat) flour without additives; and self-raising flour = (wheat flour with baking powder and/or other addititives - this is the flour used for making cakes and 'puffy' pastry.
