Many governments around the world (Thailand included) are chasing big "total" (national) numbers. They call this economic growth. Some people (politicians and big business owners) benefit from big flows of money. Most people as Rana Foroohar pointsout get nothing.

Perhaps our Thailand government should look at improving 'price-per-earning' instead.
