I can think of an explanation for 'PIN number'. PIN is a 'proper noun' (including the wrod 'Number'), so it is not wrong to add 'number' to mean the number of that PIN ;-)

Yes, this is confusing at times: to plead [...] to [accusation/offence] and to find 'guilty'/'not guilty' of an offence.
