Good cleaning habit in community can be cultivated elsewhere but not in Thailand, why?

I heard that the Ganges (or Ganga คงคา) river in India is self-cleaning even with 'just about' everything (including not quite burnt out bodies) thrown in it. What sort of river ecology is in the Ganges. Can someone please take a bottle of water from there and have it analysed (for safety sake) then pour into any canal in BKK? "ทุกอย่างที่กินเป็นอาหารหากเหลือ จะต้องล้างลงท่อน้ำที่อ่างล้างจาน ก่อนจะนำเข้าเครื่องล้าง..." The must have a 'flushing' drain system otherwise solid food will stay in the the drain and either get eaten by .... or rot and smell... in the drain system. Interesting ;-)
