I have been studying the books of "Abhidhamma" and I think what the books say is this: we should learn to observe and understand our "dhammas" -- no elimination by force or suppression. By knowing and understanding our (akusala and kusala) dhammas we accumulate 'conditions' to improve our life (now and next) because all dhammas are conditional (except 'nibaanna' dhamma -- which is not ours ;-)
A point to ponder, sometimes we see a lot of destruction or erosion of our 'creations', do we not realize that "all" things are impermanent, unsatisfactory (dukkha) and 'not reallly ours'?
Enjoy life today, everyday ;-)
