This was the fourth day of training. Two sessions given today were on the Thai Health Care system and possible research projects.

The first talk was too vague for me. It seemed like the speaker was not prepared for this session and just modified some previous talks and slides that he had used before for another group. Perhaps this struck a chord with some social science people, but this session was definitely not for me. The take-home message was you must emphasise the holistic view of health care.

The second talk was much better than the first. The speaker talked about being research-driven. The end result of such research-driven culture was probably more money. You should also give credits to people who could raise money for the university. This called to mind the KMUTT model: not everyone needs to be a professor, not everyone needs to teach, and not everyone needs to go out and make money for the university.

But, is research the be-all and end-all?
