From my own experience, it is very hard to extend my vision field and to reframe the way I look at the world. I was quite comfortable in the old-same-familiar environment I did not want big changes in my world (I may no longer fit in). I looked at Buddhism from a "web of relations" and see that change is inevitable, holding on leads to suffering, and only by looking at the web (of relations) I can see "others" in my world not just "I" (at the centre of my world). Now I learn about relations and try to influence relations rather than always make direct actions.
I think life in "21stC" is about learning and managing relations.
(Teaching --in the old way-- can be seen as Master-Slave relations ;-)
