Yes! If we want to we can do with the overflows in pu~n~na offering.

I hear that these days a funeral costs from minimum 30,000 (a night among close family and friends in a secondary pavilion and the incineration early next morning, in a rural area).

The management cost (for funeral "subcontractors") over the pavilion hire, electricity, catering and equipment hire, chanting monks, flowers and wreaths, incineration,... in the big cities and big wats (with big parking areas) is generally quite high.

We are obliged to show face in making big "silly" expenses. Donation to schools only comes after the "tax deductible" clause and big name plaques in school halls.

Schools often have under-utilized facilities (areas, buildings/rooms, catering halls, sports grounds, ...) that can be further utilized for fees. Classrooms can be freed up if 'learning space' (concept) is used instead of 'learning rooms'. (Learning is not dependant on 'place', is it?)

Education has become teachers' and government's responsibilities (both are diminishing in quality) -- so, where do children, parents and "the community" (in rural areas) stand?

Becoming grumpy and whinging again, ain't I?
