A doctor in US made a remark to the same effect a year or so ago.

He said these days "patients are just 'icons' on the computer screen running 'ipatient' programs" (my interpretation) The fact, that patients are 'no longer' the primary concern of healthcare providers but just 'numbers' of cases for hospital statistics and efficiency measures, is a reflection of our today's digital (virtual) interest.
