Yes, it is quite a pattern of response ...first emotive and insulting, then questioning and 'downloading' the blame, and finally ... forgiving and welcoming back to the clan...
A lesson I learned from my mother when I was much younger ;D after I dropped an old and expensive plate. My mother came over, picked me up and asked if I was alright, did I get hurt, did I stepped on broken bits... I cried then stopped and cried again. I had a realization that I was more important to my mother than that plate I dropped and broke.
Ever since then I always think of my mother when I see a child get smacked or scolded for clumsiness... ;-)
