Forgive me for saying this. Lost and lot of patents stay locked up (at costs) and never get to a market. I don't how difficult it is to sell patents -- though software companies love this game. To sell products is not too hard -- but to make money too is much much harder. There are many more issues to work out, manufacturing, pricing, commisions (to pay), ...
A friend of mine used to travel up and down the country for many years to build up contacts and trust to secure the raw materials for his unpatented process. He has 'made it' now. But he confessed: "he was younger and tried to prove himself to his family" was the main drive to success. He wouldn't do that again. He would do it differently.
