They say that this word สวัสดี is a recent (not historical) Thai invention; comes from Sanskrit (su/suva + asti);...

I fon't know about the Kmer's side of the story. Did they take it from Sandkrit --too? Or from Thai? -- "word dating" ;-) is needed here. Can anyone help resolving this issue?
