Snakes swallow their preys "whole". They do not tear preys apart nor chew -- snakes have no biting or chewing teeth! The fangs are used to grab/hold for the jaws and muscles to push the whole prey into the stomach. Snakes may use their tongues more for something else but not for tasting. While eating their tongues are likely to be "in the way" instead of to give "pleasure of the flesh" (meal).
