Study Visit on Tourism Education at Mahidol University International College

  • We want the students to have well-round knowledge instead of focusing on their fields.
  • Our faculty members are required to conduct research so that they can understand the industry well and come up with recommendation to improve the industry.
  • We help local community by action projects based on the community’s needs.
  • We try to focus on sustainability because we aware of natural resource were destroyed.
  • We try to work at all levels like people in community, tourist attractions, etc.
  • We are happy to extend international network
  • We want to share academic resources to benefit community.

  • We have inbound and outbound students exchange program.
  • We emphasize on Internship Program. We have Salaya Pavillion Hotel for student internship.
  • When students finish second year, they join internship 1.
  • After course work, they have internship 2. They can choose to work with 5-star hotels and other organizations in our network. We have monitoring system to make sure thing goes smoothly.
  • We have student overseas internship. We give pocket money for them to go abroad.
  • We have students from Myanmar. One is from SM Tour. The other one is from Mandalay.
  • Most students would like to go to hotel, airlines. Event organizers are growing.
  • Students learn business knowledge to be able to start business.
  • Our students are required to take tour guide course and get license after graduation.
  • We offer languages for students to choose to learn. Then, they have internship there.
  • We have student internship in India.

Study Visit at Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)

Presentation by Mr. Sansern Ngaorungsi, Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Asia and South Pacific), Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)

  • Now, Thailand has 17-18 million tourist arrivals.
  • Last year, Thailand had 19 million tourist arrivals.
  • Tourist arrivals started to drop from 2009 due to political crisis.
  • In 2007, tourist arrivals reached 14 million.
  • Last year, tourist arrival dropped due to flood in October.
  • We got most tourist arrivals from East Asia.
  • Top 7 tourist arrivals to Thailand are from these countries.
  1. Malaysia from cross border
  2. China (number one by flight)
  3. Japan
  4. Russia
  5. Korea
  6. India
  7. Laos
  • Thailand’s tourism revenue is about 700,000 million Bahts.
  • Tourism revenue is 9.95% of Thailand’s total GDP in 2011.
  • Tourism arrivals to Thailand will increase 8-10%.
  • TAT is SOEs. It keeps growing. The government keeps it expanding under ministry structure. TAT works only on tourism marketing.
  • Tourism business relate to several organizations.
  • We have to talk to other organizations and Ministries. We need middle people to talk.
  • TAT’s vision is to promote tourism.
  • TAT has 26 overseas offices.
  • TAT takes part in international world trade in tourism such as Ex/, WTM, ITB etc.
  • TAT joins with partners in tourism promotion.
  • TAT promotes domestic market. Domestic market can balance economic situation. It is 20-30% of Thailand’s tourism.
  • We should prepare for future change.
  • Thais travel 90 million trips per year in Thailand.
  • For public relation, TAT carries on Amazing Thailand Always Amazes You. We work with celebrity, use movie star, social network and off-line promotion to promote Thailand brand.
  • Development of Tourism Products is divided into these groups: Nature, Culture, Festivals and Activities, Niche market.
  • Tourism products quality and support are the recognition as Thailand Tourism Award and Green Leaf Hotel.
  • TAT promotes festival for tourist attractions.
  • TAT develops human resource for tourism sector by conducting seminars in the field of tourism industry.
  • We have Buddhist Circuit (trip to Myanmar). We promote Myanmar on package tour on article.

  • Myanmar wants to begin degree course next year.
  • Now, there are diploma teachers. There should be degree teachers.

  • Myanmar’s tourism should not go and jump to high level management. Myanmar has to do survey of demand for number of workers. Now, tourism needs lower level staffs. If Myanmar focuses on developing high level staffs, no one will work at lower level.
