I am not a doctor.

I do not hear of blood pressure down on our toes is higher than BP on the top of our head (when we stand).

I think may be our blood fill veins and artilleries and distribute (high)pressure more evenly (in capillaries)

- so our heart (pump) only 'circulates' blood --much lower energy requirement,

-- not sucks from one pool and pushes to another pool at higher position (potential).

[A friend had recently a stroke, 4 heart bypasses and about to go to a heart rhythm (pump-valve synchrony) adjustment.]

I learned a little on (heart) valves and how they must synchronize with the (heart) beats and came to realize that our heart (pump) is a wonder (like all organs -Nature- has tested for many million years) -reliable and fit for the purpose.

But lives are not forever (we, Buddhists know this), when a failure starts --a domino effect-- takes over and our system soon collapses. (I think it is much the same as when there a flaw in a structure --the whole system under over-stress soon collapses.)

Surely, some medical guru readers out there can help --enlighten us--.

So, if you can add to what we are talking about, please, please ;-)
