When we were [very] young, we had [great] incentive to learn -- to communicate 'our needs' [to our mother].
We learned language by [many-]trials-and-[many-]errors.
Can we remember saying 'ga-ga' when we meant to say 'Mummy'?
Can we remember Mummy hugs and kisses for every [silly] noise we made? [gi, ga, ge, heh, ah, ...]
We learned to get more attention and love when we could make the right sound. [ma, mum, mae, pau, ...]
We did have [great] incentives to learn. And we did great.
After we have mastered one language, we lost our chance to learn another language -- in the same way -- with lots of love and kisses. And we forgot how we could teach in the same way as mothers teaching the first language.
But perhaps, mothers [fathers too] can come together with the children and learn another language [even English] together. Adding love, kisses and fun back into learning.
Learning like parrots is very good if we have parrots to learn with ;-)
