Banker: 2011 GDP to rise 4%

The economy would continue to grow in the second half of the year and the gross domestic product growth was expected at 4% as targeted, Kosit Panpiemras, executive chairman of Bangkok Bank, said on Wednesday.

Mr Kosit said growth would be boosted mainly by the mobilisation of the private sector’s strong performance.

His comments were made at a seminar - “Thai Economy in the 2nd Half: Opportunity and Challenge”.

Mr Kosit warned of negative factors that could derail economic expansion, including high inflation, high consumer prices and foreign investment inflow and outflow.

The banker said on the political front, the private sector was concerned about which party will become the next government and whether or not there would be political unrest after the election.

He suggested the next government give importance to the sufficiency economy philosophy and implement it more in running the country, as past administrations had failed to do so.

เขาแนะนำให้รัฐบาลต่อไปให้ความสำคัญกับปรัชญาเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงและใช้มันมากขึ้นในการทำงานในประเทศที่เป็นฝ่ายปกครองที่ผ่านมาล้มเหลวที่จะทำ
