When I was at school, I didn't dig English grammar at all. Everything was just rote-learning. Genders, tenses, moods, ... were all confusing.
When I started to write for people to read, I had to find words and ways to make clear what I meant to say. I found in grammar, solutions to my problems. Grammar are 'answers' to 'how to' communicate so that readers know what writers say -- correctly.
Like everyone else I learn (and still lear) English by remembering 'words' and examples of how the words are used. Then I try to use those words too but for what I want them to mean. I use grammar to do this. I don't use many grammar rules or words in my writing because I want to write in simple and plain English. Simple and plain English is easy to understand. We can all learn to use simple and plain English. ;-)
