snail mail (n jargon) จดหมายที่ถูกส่งทางไปรษณีย์ปกติ (เพื่อไม่ให้สับสนกับ E-mail ถ้าใช้คำว่า mail เฉยๆ ในยุคนี้อาจไม่ชัดเจนว่าเป็นอันไหน) snail แปลตามตัวคือหอยทาก ซึ่งเคลื่อนไหวอย่างช้าๆ เป็นการบ่งชี้กลายๆ ว่า ไม่เร็วเหมือน E-mail
