Your concern is a national concern. It is a concern that parents share.
Perhaps, we should break down 'curriculum learning' into small areas and ask this question in each area. And we should the same for these 'distractions from curriculum learning'. Maybe we can characteristics that make certain areas less attractive than some others. Maybe we even see that our children learn more from what they see (adults do) around them than they learn from teachers in class.
Maybe our teachers could make this study for a '3/9' level?
