1) I’m very honored to be back in ARTDO International, I was the President in 1989, seem a long time, I intend to come back to work with all of you and many thanks for Dr.Chee for inviting me.
2) Objectives
- To discuss new approach to leadership development.
- Explore eastern culture to mix with western culture.
- To explore ways to develop new approach to leadership.
- To receive some feedback from the distinguished audiences.
- To explore further research on leadership among member countries.
3) What is leadership?
Someone who do something special and create value creation within organization. Value Creation must be sustainable in the long run and performed by those who posses trust as unique ability for their leadership.
4) Why leadership is important?
Leadership is so important in this era of changing world, world of globalization and world of fast changing and complex issues. Leadership must be able to drive the organization to be more effective but also move organizations to the future through happy workplace, change and innovations.
5) Leadership is not only one person such a CEO in the company, leaders can be at any level as long as he or she generates trust among colleagues and fellow employees.
6) Happiness and Leadership
First, it reflects on myself, to be effective leader you must have happiness which call “happiness capital” as a sub-set of larger picture of human capital.
7) As society become more competitive, people become more greedy. Before the hamburger crisis, one journalist describe MBA Program of Harvard Business School as factory of unhappy people.
I went through period of maximizing material gain before, but I realize that happiness and money are not the same. So I began to discover what is important for me.
I develop 11 rules for happiness as following;
Happiness Capital
(Dr. Chira Hongladarom’s Model)
- Healthy
- Passion
- Purpose
- Meaning
- Capability
- Learning
- Prepare
- Teamwork
- Coaching
- Challenge
11. Enrichment
Happiness Capital
(Sharp/Hongladarom’s Model)*
- Exercise
2. Put down your burden
3. Communicate Effectively
4. Recognize your strengths
5. Keep Focus
6. Reduce the ‘shoulds’
7. Clarify your values
8. Overcome worry and stress
9. Refine your workload
10.Choose your words
11.Create good environment
8) Leadership and learning culture
As we move ahead into 21st Century – Alvin Toffler predict..
Agriculture
Industries
IT

But for me, we also in the forth wave – sustainability, wisdom, creativity, innovation and intellectual capital.
Therefore each individual must develop thinking skill, creative think and ability to have life-long learning. In developing learning culture for individuals in Asia and in the world we can have 3 approaches.
1) His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand – he suggests
- What to do?
- How to do?
- Do for whom?
- And who benefit from what you do?
2) In Thailand, education system is weak because teachers may have knowledge but they do no have learning culture. Because they don’t follow His Majesty the King’s method.
3) The King also suggested sufficiency philosophy
In the western world, Peter Senge suggests the fifth discipline of learning culture which are;
- Personal Mastery
- Mental Models
- Shared Vision
- Team Learning
- System Thinking
For me – my learning culture consists of 3 aspects;
- 4 L’s
- 2 R’s
. 2 I’s
4 L’s
- Learning Methodology
- Learning Environment
- Learning Opportunities
- Learning Communities
2 R’s
- Reality
- Relevance
2 i’s
- Inspiration
- Imagination
Finally – creativity and innovation leaders without creativity and innovation can’t lead the organization into the future.
For me, creativity is a way to your brain to explore all kinds of alternatives. When you want to solve problems, look for different approach. Creativity is good for the future of organizational survival.
For Example, blue ocean - the success of blue ocean is creativity
Once you have creativity, you bring knowledge plus new ideas into action plan – turn ideas into reality – last thing to do is turn action into success, success is when customers feel satisfied about your products and your services.
The difficulty of innovation which leaders must do is to overcome the difficulty – such as corporate culture, inability of change or management style of CEO such as command and control.
Role model of leadership in my opinion

Leadership Creativity &Innovations
Conclusion
I hope all of you will be able to share your own ideas about leadership in other organizations. This approach is one of many. But for me, it has been very effective in my effort to make organization strong, create, happy and sustainable.
In the leadership study,
ü How = 20%
ü Why = 30%
ü the greatest challenge is execution (50%)
Make it happen!!
Thank You
