Adjectives โดยทั่วไปมีคุณลักษณะ (Characteristics) ต่อไปนี้

๑.  สามารถอยู่หน้านาม ( ATTRIBUTIVE function) เช่น

     an ugly painting, the round table, the dirty furniture

๒.   สามารถอยู่หลังนาม (PREDICATIVE function) เช่น

    the painting is ugly, The girl looked cheerful.

๓.   สามารถมีคำ พวก very, quite, rather มาเน้นขยายได้ เช่น

    The children are very happy

๔.  สามารถใช้เปรียบเทียบด้วยการเติม er, est ข้างหลัง หรือเติม more, most ข้างหน้าได้ เช่น   

     The children are happier now.

     They are the happiest people I know.

 These students are more intelligent.

 They are the most useful tools I have ever had.

Note: คำ participial adjectives ( คำ adj.ที่หน้าตาเหมือน verbs ที่เติม ed และ ing ) เช่น

unaccompanied children, pouring rain, falling leaves ดังที่กล่าวไว้ในบันทึกข้างบน

คำพวกนี้ไม่สามารถนำคำ very, quite หรือ rather มาวางข้างหน้าได้

ไม่เคยได้ยินฝรั่งที่ไหนพูด the very pooring rain เลยค่ะ
