This short piece of this note aims to help my doctoral candidate students from China on the concept and understanding of models. Based on my research on the topic, I classify models into 4 categories, namely Physical Model, Sample Model, Theoretical Model, and Work-designed Model.
Physical Model is an imitated and rescaled model of objects such as a model plane or a model building.
Sample Model is represented by a good sample of a kind such as a model administrator or a model person who exhibits something.
Theoretical Model is a presentation of ideas or concepts proposed to describe, explain, or predict phenomena.
Work-designed Model is a presentation of a set of guidelines created and recommended a more effective, or efficient, or effective and efficient method to achieve a goal or goals.
For better understanding of model concept, one should have concepts on paradigm approach and guidelines because, a work-design model must be designed on a certain paradigm approach and a set of guidelines according to the paradigm approach.

Thank you. This article reminds me of a ‘reflection technique’ (i learned at work yonky years ago). In simple terms, reflection is making a list in some [chosen] ‘headings’ using minimal of words (to make sure, the ‘objects’ are well understood and clear. Then explore the possibilities by considering items from each of the several headings in combinations.
It is was easy for me to think of this process in ‘Set Theory’ (Set language): let S, W, O, and T be sets (lists in reflection), items in each set (eg. [s1,s2,s3,..], [w1,w2,..], and so on ), are then considered in combinations (ie. s1-w1, s1-w2,…) for possibilities (or meanings or innovations,…). This is ‘exhaustive’ search and is very time-consuming as each combination can lead to ‘more searches’ beyond the ‘basic’ (first order). For examples, space (context), time (probable future), technology (available tools) and culture (values in society).
