Seeing His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia receiving the current Thailand's Prime minister in a newspaper picture [ https://image.bangkokbiznews.com/uploads/images/contents/w1024/2023/10/I19GQoq3yAcNt8zB4BoQ.webp  ], a few questions came up:

Is there Islamic Dress Code?

  • Islam prescribes a more conservative minimum dress code for both men and women. In Islam, both men and women are expected to dress simply, modestly, and with dignity. A man must always be covered in loose and unrevealing clothing from his navel to his knee. This is the absolute minimum covering required.
  • Men are also required to behave and dress modestly because pride and boastfulness are one of the biggest sins in Islam. Men are forbidden to dress like a woman such as wearing gold jewelry or silk clothing.

The Red Shoes  (well in this case socks )

Read about  The Red Shoes (fairy tale)   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Red_Shoes_(fairy_tale)

…[the girl, Karen] is so enamoured of her new [red] shoes that she wears them to church, but the old lady tells her, " This is highly improper: you must only wear black shoes in church ".

Read story    (in English) https://andersen.sdu.dk/vaerk/hersholt/TheRedShoes_e.html

[a snippet from above link with my italics] …The executioner said, "You don't seem to know who I am. I strike off the heads of bad people, and I feel my ax beginning to quiver."

"Don't strike off my head, for then I could not repent of my sins," said Karen. "But strike off my feet with the red shoes on them."

She confessed her sin, and the executioner struck off her feet with the red shoes on them. The shoes danced away with her little feet, over the fields into the deep forest. But he made wooden feet and a pair of crutches for her. He taught her a hymn that prisoners sing when they are sorry for what they have done. She kissed his hand that held the ax, and went back across the wasteland.

"Now I have suffered enough for those red shoes," she said. "I shall go and be seen again in the church." She hobbled to church as fast as she could, but when she got there the red shoes danced in front of her, and she was frightened and turned back. …"

[ Luckily, Hans Christian Andersen's stories [mostly] have happier ending ] …The organ sounded and the children in the choir sang, softly and beautifully. Clear sunlight streamed warm through the window, right down to the pew where Karen sat. She was so filled with the light of it, and with joy and with peace, that her heart broke. Her soul traveled along the shaft of sunlight to heaven, where no one questioned her about the red shoes

The moral of this Story?

The ghost of our own obsession can come back and wreak havoc in our life later.

Will Thailand's international relations be affected?

This is an open question. I cannot answer if not observing customs of other cultures would impact levels of relations in one way or another. We often look down on people not observing our customs. Perhaps, avoiding these issues is best and happier.
