It must be upsetting for some people to read about Thailand's politicians and their ‘work’ in the newspapers. We see news about the members of parliament (MPs) working for their (political) party - a lot. But we hardly see news about them working for the people who (either do or do not) vote for them. We should wonder if MPs and senators should be monitored and assessed like we do to school children.
School children are subjected to code of conduct, learning performance and class attendance. Failures in any area of assessment impact their educational result and their future. The issues like ‘ติด 0 ร มส และ มผ’ are terrorizing our children and teachers. There are remedies but children are children and we are to guide them to better future --not to condemn them for life--. What installed for citizens - taxpayers is much the same as for children only the words are changed (to ‘fine’, bail/bond, imprison,..)
Why Politicians should enjoy ‘privileges’ well beyond what expected of school children and other taxpayers? Is there reason that lawmakers do not have to be under the same laws they pass?
Attendance is a major issue/tactic used to play party politics by MP's. And they feel no shame avoiding attendance. See how much we spend in up-keeping parliament below…
And in comparison to those who work long and hard for people, especially nurses, doctors and many supporters in combating COVID-19 in recent years. To give a high profile example นพ.ยง ภู่วรวรรณ. We would have to ask if MP's are really worth the cost?
