A linguist and her son discussed palm trees in Thailand. She asked her son if he knew “jaewtaan”(แจวตาล), a part of Thai Taan fruits and he replied he couldn’t remember them at all. Then his mom just
thought of something, “Oh, no, it’s “jaawtaan”(จาวตาล), not “jaewtaan”. Sorry, son, I was wrong.”
“That’s ok, Mom. You married my Dad, an American, so you prefer pronouncing “ae”vowel sound in American accent to “a” vowel sound in British RP accent!!!lol!!!”
????????????
Actually, there are the same certain words pronounced differently with /ae/ ,vowel sound in American accent, whereas they are pronounced with /a/, vowel sound in British RP accent. The words like pass, ask, can’t, mask, dance, grass, glass, etc. have different vowel sounds due to American or British RP accent.
(RP is the abbreviation of Received Pronunciation, which is the accent traditionally regarded as the standard for British English...(Wikipedia))
