อธิบายว่า สามารถใช้ “control” .ให้เป็นได้ทั้ง กริยา หรือ นาม

เมื่อใช้เป็น กริยา

         “ถ้าบางคน ‘controls’ บางสิ่ง” เช่น “ประเทศ/องค์กร หนึ่ง”

         หมายถึง “พวกเขามีอำนาจ ในการตัดสินใจที่สำคัญ”

         ในการดำเนินไปของสิ่งนั้น เช่น

                ‘The Australian government at that time controlled the island.’

                ‘His family had controlled the company for more than a century.’

เมื่อใช้ “control” เป็น กริยา ต้องไม่ใช้ บุพบท ตามหลัง

เมื่อใช้ “control” เป็น นาม

         “เพื่ออ้างอิงถึง อำนาจ ที่บางคน มีอยู่ใน ประเทศ/องค์กร หนึ่ง”

         โดยกล่าวว่า “บางคน ‘has control of a country/organization’” หรือ

         ‘has control over it’ เช่น

                ‘Mr, Ronson gave up control of the company.’

                ‘The first aim of his government would be to establish control over the area.’

สามารถใช้ “control” เป็น นาม

         เพื่ออ้างอิงถึง ‘สถานที่หนึ่ง ที่ เอกสาร/สัมภาระ ของคุณ ถูกตรวจสอบ’

         อย่างเป็นทางการ เมื่อคุณ ผ่านเข้าสู่ประเทศหนึ่ง เช่น

                  ‘I went through passport control into the departure lounge.’

อย่าใช้ “control” เป็น กริยา

        เพื่อให้หมายถึง ‘check’ หรือ “inspect” เช่น

อย่าใช้ว่า “My luggage was controlled.”

ให้ใช้ว่า “My luggage was checked.” หรือ

               “My luggage was inspected.” เช่น

               ‘I had to wait while the baggage was being checked.’ ‘The guard took his ID card and inspected it.’
