โครงการชวนราชบัณฑิตขึ้นแท็บเล็ตสอนเด็ก: Royal Institute Thai Dictionary for otpc tablets
It is now over 12 months since I began to publicly ask the Royal Institute for permission to distribute the Royal Institute's Thai dictionary to Thai students with the expected otpc tablets. I made a working model of a Thai dictionary in Stardict format for use on Android devices. (The model had been kindly tested and its usability confirmed by a class of students.) I sent email to the Royal Institute and departments (obec and the Minister Office) of the Ministry of Education 3 times in 2013. Todate, I have no reply.
While waiting for the permission, I looked to increase Thai language study resources. I tested NECTEC's Lexitron Thai-English and English-Thai dictionaries and found them working well on Android devices. I asked for and received a permission to distribute a Thai Buddhist/Dhamma dictionary from the office of the Venerable ... (P.A. Payutto). I had an offer to develop a dictionary application for Android device (so, we have a completely made in Thailand app).
The otpc tablets project is in a confusing situation after delays in delivery and in finalizing OTPC APPlication CONTEST (it seemed that a result was announced on 26 December 2013 and prizes awarded). Recent speculations include abandonment of otpc tablet project, preference of a "smart classroom" trial/pilot project, schools are to acquire the tablets for eligible students themselves, and so on. The current political situation may add more delays.
It is enough to say that we (โครงการชวนราชบัณฑิตขึ้นแท็บเล็ตสอนเด็ก) are not getting serious attention from either the Royal Institute nor the Ministry of Education. Though both organizations have in their official objectives --to encourage use of correct Thai language in schools and among the public at large. It is time we show greater concerns and make greater efforts for our 'younger Thai generations'. All Thais should have "free" access to the Thai Language Standard Reference - the Royal Institute Thai Dictionary.

I have waited 2 months for reactions to my proposed offline (Royal Thai Institute) Thai dictionary on otpc tablets. [See (ร่าง)จดหมาย ชวนราชบัณฑิต ขึ้นแท็บเล็ตสอนเด็ก ฟรี http://www.gotoknow.org/posts/533640 23 เม.ย. 2013] I saw the Minister of MOE changed over last month, the director of สพฐ is about to retired (at end of September), and the release of Royal Institute Thai Dictionary 2554 edition publication. There has been no sign of "free for students and people" (electronic) edition (only printed edition free to government offices). I will move on to my next action: formally setting up โครงการชวนราชบัณฑิตขึ้นแท็บเล็ตสอนเด็ก a public campaign to have Thai dictionary available free of charge to all Thais (and the world). It is a way of promoting quality of Thai life, saving Thai heritage and developing skills for Thai society in this tipping point time.
Yes I have to admit that my Thai skill is quite limited (to draft a 2 page long letter to The Royal Institute in Thai took me over 10 days). I need help in manymore areas too. So how about giving me a hand? Join my public campaign, apply for public funding or make a donation or what you can offer.
