Into this world (2): getting ready to explore
It is a month after we had taken a baby possom --Meego, into our care (see Into this world). We are happy to report:
Meego has gained weight (about twice in the body size)
She has teeth (enough to make suckling milk from bottle a difficult task -- a natural way for some animals to 'wean' or go off suckling milk from mother)
She is learning to eat solid food (small pieces of pawpaw, banana, boiled carrot, boiled cabbage, cooked rice --of course Meego is learning to be a Thai possom ;-) Meego was eating at night when the picture was taken without flash light.
She can run and climb up chairs and tables. She hardly make noises. She is quite comfortable in our hands and pockets. She is sometimes allowed to cling to our shirt collar when we walk about in the garden. Our dog Ryder does not really approve having Meego on our shoulder but he turns and moves away when Meego approaches him.
We are confident that Meego will --in another month-- be ready to fend for herself, find her own food and friends.
We'll miss her. We can thank her for the joy and togetherness she helps to create in our home.
(We have released Freddy the dollar bird, we cared for some 6 weeks. We haven't seen him back for more handout. Good luck, Freddy!)
