Learn basic patterns of intonation to speak English as a naturally melodious language
สวัสดีค่ะ... วันนี้ปุ้ยมี สาระดีๆ จากประสบการณ์การเรียนรู้ เกี่ยวกับการพูดภาษาอังกฤษอย่างมีท่วงทำนองและเป็นธรรมชาติมาฝาก คิดว่าทุกคนคงทราบกันดีแล้วนะคะ ว่าการที่จะพูดได้อย่างเจ้าของภาษานั้นเป็นเรื่องยาก แต่ก็ไม่ยากเกินไปที่จะเรียนรู้ เพียงแค่ศึกษา ทำความเข้าใจ และอาศัยการฝึกฝนอย่างสม่ำเสมอและต่อเนื่อง แค่นี้เราก็สามารถพูดได้อย่างคล่องแคล่วและอย่างน้อยก็ใกล้เคียงกับเจ้าของภาษา..
แต่ในเบื้องต้นเราควรต้องทำความเข้าใจกันก่อนว่า ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาที่มีท่วงทำนอง (Intonation) มีเสียงขึ้นลง สูงต่ำ (Falling and Rising tones) เหมือนดนตรี ที่นอกจากจะให้ทำนองที่ไพเราะแล้ว แต่ยังช่วยสื่อความหมายได้ดีในการสื่อสารระหว่างผู้พูดและผู้ฟังอีกด้วย ทั้งนี้ท่วงทำนอง (Intonation) ยังช่วยให้เกิดความเข้าใจในการสื่อสารได้ตรงกันและถูกต้องระหว่างผู้ส่งสารและรับสาร เนื่องจากผู้ฟังสามารถเข้าใจถึงความรู้สึกและทัศนคติของผู้พูดว่าสื่ออะไรผ่านท่วงทำนองสูงต่ำ ดังนั้นจึงทำให้พูดรับสาร สามารถโต้ตอบได้อย่างถูกต้องและทำให้การสื่อสารเป็นไปอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ
ดังนั้น เรามาเริ่มกันเลยนะคะ
ท่วงทำนองมีอยู่ด้วยกันหลายประเภท (Patterns of Intonation) ที่ทำให้ภาษาเปรียบเสมือนดนตรีที่ไพเราะ เช่น
1. The rising tone - (the glide - up) *(BOLD)*
2. The falling tone - (the glide down) *(ITALIC)*
3. The rising and rising tone (the take-off)
4. Falling and rising tone (Dive)
5. Rising and falling tone
6. Falling and falling tone
แต่วันนี้ ปุ้ยจะพาเพื่อนๆ มารู้จัก two basic patterns of intonation, falling and rising tones ก่อนนะค่ะ ถ้างั้นเรามาดูกันว่าสอง patterns นี้ คืออะไร (What are they?) ช่วยผู้พูดสื่อสารอะไร (What do they commuicate?) และมีการใช้เสียงสูงต่ำอย่างไร (the use of intonation)
มารู้จัก pattern แรกกันนะค่ะ
1. Falling Intonation (symbol = ITALIC)
- What is it?
= A pattern in which your voice falls to a low pitch by the end of a thought group or statement.
- What does it communicate?
= Certainty, You are telling a fact and/or you believe you are right.
- The use of intonation
i) Use the falling tone for the complete statements
Ex. ll It was 'quite 'GOOD. ll
ll I 'wouldn't 'mind 'seeing it A'GAIN. ll
ii) Use the falling tone for wh-questions.
Ex. ll 'Why did you 'change your 'MIND? ll
ll 'Who on the earth was 'THAT? ll
iii) Use the falling tone for the strong command.
Ex. ll 'Don't 'make a 'NOISE. ll
ll 'Shut the 'DOOR. ll
iv) Use the falling tone for the short questions.
Ex. ll 'Did YOU? ll
ll Has SHE? ll
2. Rising Intonation (symbol = BOLD)
- What is it?
= A pattern in which your voice rises to a high pitch by the end of a thought of group or statement.
- What does it communicate?
= Uncertainty, You are not sure of the truth and/or you are asking the listener to answer yes or no to a question.
- The use of intonation
i) Use the rising tone with the statements that end with the questions.
Ex. ll You like IT? ll
ll You 'can't GO? ll
ii) Use the rising tone with Yes-no questions.
Ex. ll 'Have you ⁄ seen HIM? ll
ll 'Did 'John 'post 'that ⁄ LETTER? ll
ll 'Can I ⁄ see IT? ll
iii) Use the rising tone with the request.
Ex. ll 'Please 'sit, DOWN. ll
ll 'Kindly 'give me 'some 'MONEY. ll
iv) Use the rising tone for the greetings and good bye.
Ex. ll 'Good ⁄ MORNING. ll
ll 'Good ⁄ BYE. ll
ll 'Good ⁄ NIGHT. ll

หลังจากศึกษา และทำความเข้าใจกับ basic patterns of intonation ดีแล้ว แค่นี้ก็สามารถพูดได้อย่างมีท่วงทำนองแล้ว ใครที่สนใจ ก็ลองศึกษา other patterns เพิ่มเติมได้ และฝึกฝนอย่างจริงจัง แค่นี้ก็พูดได้อย่างคล่องแคล่วเป็นธรรมชาติแล้ว ถึงแม้ไม่ได้อย่างเจ้าของภาษา แต่เราก็ใกล้เคียงเจ้าของภาษาแล้วค่ะ :DD
