              ประเทศไทยมีการนำระบบอินเตอร์มาใช้หลายปี ส่วนใหญ่เป็นการใช้งานภายในหน่วยงานราชการ สถาบันการศึกษา ต่อมามีการนำเอามาใช้ในเชิงธุรกิจสำหรับบุคคลทั่วไป ในปี พ.ศ. 2537 แต่ไม่ได้รับความนิยม สำหรับปี พ.ศ. 2539 แตกต่างกันออกไป ผลจากการที่มีข่าวปรากฏบนหน้าหนังสือพิมพ์ว่ามีการนำภาพดารามาตกแต่งเป็นภาพโป๊เปลือย แล้วนำไปแจกจ่ายบนอินเตอร์เน็ต กระแสความสนใจเกิดขึ้น ผู้คนทั่วไปเริ่มหันมาสนใจกับอินเตอร์มากขึ้นทุกที
              อันตรายของอินเตอร์เน็ตที่พบเห็นได้เด่นชัดที่สุดน่าจะเป็นการใช้อินเตอร์เน็ต ผิดประเภทผิดวัตถุประสงค์ และใช้สื่อทางอินเตอร์เน็ตเพื่อกล่าวหาและโจมตีคู่แข่ง เพราะอินเตอร์เน็ตเป็นสื่อที่สามารถกระจายไปทั่วโลกได้อย่างรวดเร็ว
