Christmas in UK

Chirstmas in London

Part 2

A few days ago there was a news that this year is the oldest in 50 years. All the snows covered road and caused the airport to be closed as the planes could not take off. My sister who was on that day flight had to spend a night at Heathrow Airport. It was cold and there were no food or blankets... here is the story to tell and a little advice to be prepared if you have to stay over at the airport.

If anyone cannot imagine how to prepare the situation.. here are some tips that you can use if you got stuck in the airport.

My sister was about to return home, and this was just once a year trip that she would be coming home. So you can imagine that parents and family members were excited about her arrival. One night she called on the phone, sounded sad and miserable. Her flight was cancelled due to heavy snow which covered the ground.. She got on the plane ready to take off and had to sit in the plane for 8 hours. Until Air crews announced for everyone to leave the plane. As expected.. the flight was cancelled, causing 1,000s of people got stuck at the airport and had to spend a night.

It was so late at night and since my sister is coming home to hot Bangkok, she didnot prepare any warm jacket or take any blankets or sleeping bag with her. Most people ended up hungry and had to sleep on the cold floor. At night the heater was turned off, so with the cold temperature outside... inside was also as cold. Airport crews however helped as much to distributed waters so people do not get de-hydration.

So if you know that your flight is risking cancellation like this you should be prepared. Here are things you may need to take onboard on the plane with you incase you have to spend a night over at the airport.

1. Warm jacket.. (unlike my sister, as Thailand is hot so she didnt bring any warm clothes or shoes).

2. Some snacks or food, as many poeple will fight to buy food, you might not be able to get any food since it will run out so fast. Some biskits or chocolate bar will really safe you from starving.

3. Some people (like my sister) went onboard on the plane for 8 hours.. before asked to leave and waited at the boarding counter, you should get the pillow and blankets out with you.. The floor on the airport will be freezing cold.. so at least you can sit on a warm comfortable blanket. I am sure this is not considering as stealling.

4. Rest well and try to drink lots of water. Get some sleep as there is nothing else you can do.

5. Be careful of your belonging. While you are sleeping.. who knows.. you might ended up waking up and find that your baggages were gone!!

6. Call home to let everyone knows that you are alright.. without that telephone call, imagine how worse it can get when it comes to parent's worries.

Good luck and have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.. I hope nothing like this would ever happened to any of us..
