Theme Dialoque with Asia on Hope and Happyness
Happiness is a feeling that resides in ones heart. It is characterised by peace of mind, tranquility, a sense of well-being, and a relaxed disposition. The road to happiness includes: having faith, good health, being at peace, having trust, a good mind and heart, an ability to adapt, and the ability to eliminate suffering and craving. The resources for happiness are wealth, position, education, job, fame and recognition.
The people in south-east Asia, especially Thailand, are mainly Buddhists and Muslims. Majority of Buddhists, the school of thought for happiness is materialistic and quite contrary to that of Muslims that believes true happiness is having faith in God.
Medical research is an integral part of health care and therapeutic management. The steps of research includes getting a good research question, performing a literature review, finding co-investigators, writing a research proposal, finding research funding, conducting the research, presentation and publication of results and the further continuity of the research. Important things that a good researcher must have are: be fair to your co-investigators, honest with the results, intelligent and persistent.
As a physician and researcher, I have found happiness is derived from the success or the failure of research. Research starts with a minor research question and then expands indefinitely. In doing research, I have found that everything is created with intelligence, systematically, with a purpose and meaningful. To my question, who is the Creator? You, no doubt, may call him "God". Faith to God is true happiness for me.
