The study followed Kemmis and McTaggart’s action reseach procedures which consisted of the planning , action , observation , reflection and readjustment steps. Analysis of collected data was done by gathering information from interviews , the coresearchers’ opinions , video tape and photo taken with a camera for analysis , interpretation and conclusion . After that a report was prepared in form of a narrative . A comparison of the student’ pretest-pos-test mean scores and percentages was made in accordance with each of learning objectives . The results of the study showed that to organize more efficient teaching/learning activities base on local wisdom on the topic of herbal medicine one should proceed by applying action research procedures to the organization of curriculum supporting activities which will enable the students to learn about the knowledge existing in community , to participate in the teaching/learning activities , to be eager to learn , to discuss and exchange ideas , to express themselves , to make suggestions for organizing more efficient teaching/learning activities , to have first-hand experiences from actual action , to be able to make rational decisions , to recognize other people’s opinions and to learn from various factual instructional media which are close to themselves . Such teaching/learning activities which emphasize the students as the center of the activities induce pleasurable learning . The information gathered from the students and teacher-coresearchers also gave an insight into the good points and flaws in the experiment when the teaching/learning activities were going on and thus allowed readjustment of the activities for a better teaching . The reflection Process had also created a cordial relationship among the school personnel and recognition of one another]s ideas . Besides , the experts were able to impart local wisdom to the younger generations which in itself is a means of preserving the herbal Knowledge . The experts also had an opportunity to react with the youths in the community and thereby develop their self-esteem . A comparison of the student’s test and post-test mean scores and percentages in accordance with each of the learning objectives showed that the students’ learning achievement had increased . There were several problem encountered during the experiment , however .The teaching/learning activities took place in the afternoon part of the day when the weather was quite warm . Some students became less attentive . Besides , the time limit for keeping a record of the growth of the herbs was not suitable for the purpose as it was at the latter part of the second semester of the academic year . The students failed to tend the herbs evenly and the heat had prevented some plants from growing normally . Use of local dialect on the part of the experts as a means of communication also caused the researcher and students to misunderstand the message from them .
