วันวิสาขบูชา ≠ World Vesak Day

This year 2569BE (2026CE) Visākha Day is 31 [last day of] May, but the [UN] Vesak Day was on 1 May.
It is a day to remind us of the Buddha’s Teaching that life is [birth, growth, death].

The United Nations (UN) officially set the date for the International Day of Vesak. In 1999, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution to globally recognize the day of Vesak, and it has been commemorated annually at UN headquarters and regional offices since 2000.Historically, the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) first made Vesak an international holiday in 1950, resolving to celebrate it on the first full moon of May.

But because different calendars are used across Southeast Asia, you will generally see Vesak fall on two different timeframes:

First Full Moon of May: Celebrated by countries that follow traditional Theravada lunar calendars, such as Malaysia, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

Visākha Puja / 4th Lunar Month: Celebrated by countries that follow localized Chinese or Southeast Asian lunisolar calendars, such as Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia.
