I have been trying to grow coconuts at my place for over 10 years. So I had planted 7 coconut seedlings, 4 did not survive droughts, 2 got flooded for being too close to the dam the whole cyclone season, and 1 became food for a resident horse. In cost the seedling were about AUD 10-15 per plant, some we have looked after for 1-3 years before losing them.
We learned a few things on the way but obviously not enough to keep a coconut palm alive. Sigh!
Our supply of coconut flakes (AUD 8/kg from supermarket), whole coconuts (AUD 3/pop), young coconuts (AUD 3.50 imported from Thailand), coconut milk/cream (AUD 2.00/375ml can). Would it be good to have a coconut palm at home?
